How quickly will Tidewater Sheds build my shed?
The process can vary depending on the size and scope of your project. While some parts of your shed are prefabricated beforehand, we come to the site and build the entire shed from the ground up. Therefore, the time needed to deliver your building can depend on the specifics of your order.
How long does it take to build a shed?
It depends on the size and any additional features, but a shed that is 12×12 or smaller can typically be built in one day on-site, while those up to 240sf usually take two days. Including features such as painting or gambrel roofs may extend the build time.
Do you make custom-sized sheds?
Our selection of shed sizes and features can accommodate many needs. If the size, siding, or roof style you desire isn’t featured on our website, please let us know. We would be delighted to explore customizing one for you.
Is there an extra cost for installing accessories?
Yes. The Upgrades and Ideas page provides a list of accessories that come at an additional cost.
Are there accessory discounts if I buy more than one?
If you buy more than one accessory, you will not be eligible for a discounted rate. However, when you book online, you are able to select one complimentary item such as a ramp, loft, or workbench. We are proud to extend a 5% discount to those who serve in the military, teachers, and first responders.
What is your standard warranty?
At Tidewater Sheds, we provide a five-year workmanship warranty on our installation services, while our siding and shingles come with extended warranties, should the materials fail in any way.
Who do I call should I have a warranty claim?
In the event that you need to file a warranty claim, please contact Tidewater Sheds. We will be more than happy to provide assistance with both the building and material of the shed.
What payment options do you provide?
We offer several payment methods including credit card, cash, check, Venmo, and Zelle. Please be aware that certain payment options may require additional fees.
Can I finance my shed?
Tidewater Sheds is here to help with our partnered financing provider, Acorn Finance. By clicking the below link, you can easily get started on the process of obtaining funding for your project.
What types of standard building materials do you use?
When constructing a standard gable-style roof, we use architectural roof shingles that come in seven distinct colors to suit all preferences. The trim boards of our sheds are constructed from PVC material that will not require painting nor ever succumb to rot. The walls are clad in LP Smartside Plywood which has been treated to ward off water and shield against moisture damage; they come in tan as standard but can be upgraded with other colors.
I want a shed, but I can’t decide what size. How do I get started?
A helpful trick is to measure the size of a room in your home and envision the space as your shed. You can also mark off the location in your yard and consider the spacing from there. It could help to even park your mower within the boundaries and envision the floor plan. Use your current garage or space as a reference too.
What if my yard is too small for the shed size I want?
Instead of constructing a building out, we advise expanding up. If the available area only allows for a 10×12 construction, wall height can be raised for further loft or shelving opportunities. Additionally, a gambrel barn roof can be included to generate more loft space.
Can you install electricity in my shed?
We’re not a licensed electrical contractor. We do, however, know a network of contractors and can easily connect you with additional service providers for your building.
Is there a deposit to hold my day?
No. Once you’re booked, that day is yours.
What happens if I cancel?
We kindly ask for as much heads up as possible.
The permit assistance fee (if opted for) is non-refundable as that gets underway immediately.
Once you pay your project deposit, we begin purchasing and fabricating your shed components. If you cancel after paying this deposit, once work begins, 25% of your project deposit is non-refundable.
It’s installation day, but it’s raining. What happens now?
We keep an eye on the weather and work as closely to your scheduled date as possible – including weekends. We also work in light rain and around passing storms. Your build will still happen within a few days of your scheduled day.
I booked online, but I am still waiting to hear from you about my installation; what is the next step?
We make every effort to follow up on your booking confirmation with a brief introduction email within 24hrs. Please check your spam folder if you haven’t heard from us. You can always reach us via call or text at 757-230-4051.
How close to the property line can my shed be built?
This varies by locality but shorter sheds (under 8.5ft) can be placed 3-5ft from yard perimeters with larger sheds being 10-25ft. The permit process will also communicate required setbacks for easements, wetlands, power lines, etc.
What kind of access do you need to the building location?
Don’t fret about dismantling gates or having vehicles cross your yard – our crew brings every shed element directly to your premises and completes the whole assembly within 1-3 days. Afterward, we ensure to leave your area spotless.
I had a great experience with Tidewater Shed, how can I show my appreciation?
First of all, we love to hear this! How can you express your gratitude? A great way to show appreciation would be to leave a review on Google. As a small business, reviews on Google allow other homeowners access to your first-hand experience with Tidewater Sheds. If you’ve been satisfied with what we do, spreading the word about us to family and friends is a great way to show your appreciation.
What about covenant restrictions?
It is the homeowner’s responsibility to meet all Covenant requirements, stay informed of any communications, and get approval from the Homeowners’ Association. However, we are here to help! We can provide documentation and customize your shed to fit the look and feel of your home. Plus, we offer siding options other than wood, so don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
What should I do to prepare the site before your arrival?
Before our arrival, please make sure the building site is free of any blockages and provide a safe and accessible route from the parking spot to the building location. Additionally, a power source needs to be made available. For safety reasons, we request that homeowners, children, and animals stay away from the construction site until it is completed.
Can you help me with my foundation?
Our team is capable of handling any difficult soil conditions, such as a sloping landscape or excess moisture. Normally, we work with concrete blocks and 4×4 skids; however, other types of supports can also be employed, including posts.
Do you offer concrete slabs or gravel pads?
Yes. We do provide concrete slabs and gravel pads; however, the use of heavy machinery during the installation process could result in damage to your yard and/or ruts. We are not responsible for covering the cost of any repairs.
Do I need to be home during the shed installation?
It is not necessary for you to be at your home while the shed is being installed. We kindly request that you provide adequate parking, access to the yard, and a power source in advance.
Can my shed be moved after installation?
It is possible to relocate your shed after it has been installed, but you, as the homeowner, will have to level and support the structure during the relocation.
Do you subcontract your installations?
No, with the exception of concrete and gravel pads, we manage the whole shed construction process in-house.
Is your shed a kit?
No. We prefab trusses and doors before each build and build your entire shed on-site with new materials.
What does the base price include?
Our base price includes all materials and the setup of your shed. If you wish to include extra features, these can be provided at an additional cost. If you would like us to secure any necessary permits, there will be an extra charge.
Do I need a permit for the shed?
At a minimum, many localities require a zoning permit or certificate. It usually applies to flood zones or if the construction surpasses 256sf. Homeowners are typically responsible for acquiring the permit. If you need help with a zoning permit, Tidewater Sheds offers assistance for a fee of $150, and building permits requiring drawings will cost $250.
What areas do you provide services?
We are based in Suffolk, VA 23435, and offer our services to a 30-mile radius around this location, including the entire Hampton Roads area and stretching to Yorktown on the peninsula and to Wakefield and Franklin to the north and west. Although we can provide services beyond this radius, additional costs for fuel and lodging may be required.
Can I purchase the same product at a local hardware store that you will build in my yard?
It is possible to find the same product you are looking for at a local hardware store, however, it is important to remember that the quality of construction materials, craftsmanship, and customer service can vary significantly. It is important to evaluate the benefits of working directly with a qualified contractor or purchasing a prefabricated kit/structure. It is advised to read customer reviews and make an informed decision.
Do you offer Vinyl or Hardie siding?
Our site displays pricing for LP Smartside siding, however, Vinyl and Hardie’s siding are available as well. To find out more about the features and get a tailored quote, please reach out to us.
Can you paint my shed for me?
We offer custom painting using high-quality moisture, mold, and mildew-resistant exterior paint from Sherwin Williams. If your HOA requires it or if you would like a different color than the standard tan, we’ve got you covered! Painting – $5/SF with reduced cost on larger sheds. ($300 min.)
